An advisor once asked the fourth rightly guided caliph of Islam, Syeddna Ali RTA as to why his reign is so full of infighting and tumult as compared to the relatively calmer period of the caliphates of his predecessors. In reply to his question, Syedna Ali RTA asked him a counter question. Who was the advisor of those caliphs ? It was You my lord, replied the questioner. And who are my advisors ? Ali RTA shot another question. It’s us my lord said the questioner and slapped himself into silence.
The analogy perfectly fits the incumbent Congress president Rahul Gandhi. His battery of partly Sanghi and partly selfishly-greedy advisors have blurred his vision of the Gandhi-Nehru-Azad philosophy of patriotism and democratic growth. He is a man in prison. Rather than supporting his righteous decisions, his advisors and senior congressmen and women are hellbent on distracting him from one illusionary agenda to another. This has caused great harm to his image not only as a person but also as a leader of the oldest cohesive political establishment of India. Call them supporters or distractors Rahul’s advisors/ supporters and his political cronies can be broadly divided into two basic categories.
The Pseudo-Margdarshak mandal
Apart from the former prime minister Hon’ble Manmohan Singh, the economist gentleman, none in his age group seem to hold any worthwhile opinion on national or international issues. These octogenarians have lost touch with the ground tectonics in the Indian political arena. A quick transplant is urgently advised. Those senior citizens who seek hierarchy for their offspring only on the basis of the lineage must immediately be shunted. If the son is worth his salt, welcome him without favour. These veterans must be consulted on issues of their respective fields of experience and their opinions be analyzed with reference to the reality of the hour. I suggest no Advani-stic treatment for them. But a powered-off higher chair for them with all due respect like the president of this country has as compared to that of the PM. When I met the former chief minister of Delhi, the Hon’ble Sheila Dixit, this year, I could realize RG’s luck-less-ness in a few minutes of discussion. The coteries of advisors, for their sheer blindness, were going to fail him I had concluded. This was the time to read Azad. But instead of reading or resurrecting him the Congress has wiped him off from the history of their glorious charter. I had reminded Sheila Dixit of the lurking danger. She even proposed me to connect with RG, but the fear of Ahmad Patel, Salman Khurshid & Ghulam Nabi Azad losing their sheen crossed her mind the very next moment, she blabbed and sulked thinking of me as their replacement as a Muslim face in the grand old party. I, on the other hand, had a modern Azad for a modern Gandhi in my mind. She still has my introductory letter on her table while RG has been done the worst damage in his political life. I wish RG had some true & visionary friends around him. Someone who could give the RSS fasadis a taste of their own medicine. Someone who could shame the courts into doing justice to Rohit Vemula, Justice Loya, Najeeb, Pahlu, Junaid, the Modi’s genocide victims, the demolishers of Babri Masjid and the lynch mob masterminds in Nagpur. Someone who could steer the Hindu mind clear of hatred and Muslims out of apprehension. Someone who could think like Gandhi, plan like Azad and act like Nehru. To do justice to the people, let’s do justice to the party first.
The deserting volunteers
Indians, in general, wake up to the smell of money. Thanks to the Macaulayan brainwashing in the name of education. The greed and competition taught in schools and colleges have eroded the compassion and filled the hearts with hatred and callousness. It has created, in the Indians, a hunger for wealth irrespective of the means to achieve it. By the sheer power of treachery, RG’s rivals have got a complete stranglehold on the treasures of India which can attract the immoralised, money hungry masses as and when they want. Congress, on the contrary, was loved for its principles of compassion, simplicity, equality, justice and secularism. How would the new heartless congress seek votes for a charlatan like Jyotiraditya Scindia who proudly flashes his rich family pictures ( published in almost all leading national dailies) from the luxurious Yale in the USA, his son receiving a foreign degree while his voters living in stone quarries, receiving poverty? This Congress is indeed doomed until someone awakens the spirit of Gandhi-Nehru-Azad. Congress has lost its volunteers for another big reason. The foot soldiers of this grand old party were the common masses who were loved and cared for by the leaders who were once easily accessible. Today none of the top leaders are accessible to the plebeians. No one talks to the people of India. Congressmen are found humming like bees around 10 Janpath for a selfie with the high commanders and the lucky ones who get it, frame it for their drawing room or Facebook display. There is no motivational ideology or sense of service to the nation seems to be left in the Congress party that RG wants to revive.
It’s time for a deep meditation. A thoughtful conversation. An enlightening address to the desperate nation. And that only a new Maulana Azad can deliver standing next to the new Gandhi.
